Seventy years ago. when the Tabard Inn welcomed its first guests, the hotel reflected their nature of its surrounding city. Washington. D.C.-- charming, unassuming and relaxed. While today our country's capital is a fast-paced cosmopolitan city. the Hotel Tabard Inn still rests in its quiet spot on a tree-lined street. a living tribute to "small town" Washington. D.C.

During World War 1. three Victorian townhouses in an area near Dupont Circle known as "Mayfair" were linked to form the Tabard Inn. Over the years. the inn, named after the famous hostelry of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, has served as a guest house as well as quarters for Navy wartime personnel. The Tabard is known to be the oldest continuously operated hotel in Washington. D.C.

Efforts to demolish the property in the early 1970's were halted when neighbors rose up in protest. Since then the Tabard, under new ownership, has flourished through the support of friends from around the world.

Forty rooms are available for overnight guests, each unique in character and design. Lounges for the comfort of Tabard patrons are scattered throughout the main floor. Our restaurant is open every day for breakfast. lunch and dinner.

The Tabard Inn Restaurant takes time to find the freshest regional produce, meats and fish available. Using the best ingredients farms and markets can offer, we create lively. imaginative menus for the dining enjoyment of our guests.

Good food starts on the farm. Historically, the Tabard has maintained close working ties with farmers and growers in the areas around Washington. In recent years, the Tabard's own farm at Middletown. Virginia has been the source of great quantities of the finest produce in season.

We are always on the lookout for new sources of food, grown with an extra measure of care. Every menu. every day. expresses this philosophy as well as the individual skills of our kitchen staff. Equal attention is paid to our wines, with many selections specially imported by the Tabard from vineyards around the world.
