The book is just published and costs $75. It is much much more detailed in its treatment of marine biogeochemistry than this course will require. We'll highlight parts of the book during the course. So... purchase is optional. However, you may wish to pick up a copy of SG for the following reasons: (1) it has details that are helpful for further exploration of what the field is about; (2) if you are interested in continuing in the field of marine biogeochemistry... the book is good to hold; (3) it will be a resource useful for amplifying your term paper topics; (4) you can resell the book at the end of the term and not loose much of your money. If cost is an issue, consider a joint purchase of the book.
